Harleston Garden Room, Wymondham
Familiar with the composite frame
Chris, a former builder, was already familiar with the VELFAC composite frame design having installed ‘hundreds’ of rooflights from sister company VELUX during his career. On buying his new home, off plan from Newbury Developments, Chris and Yvonne were therefore ‘delighted’ to learn that VELFAC windows were to be fitted, and when the couple went on to specify the garden room they made sure VELFAC glazing was part of the design.
‘Lots of glass’
The room, a red brick single storey rear extension, built by contractors CPC Build, features ‘lots of glass’. In addition to double patio doors, runs of large VELFAC windows are installed above dwarf walls in order to increase usable floor and wall space. The VELFAC low energy design ensures comfort all year round - air tightness is excellent, supported by trickle vents, and the top hung design is ideal for additional ventilation in summer. Frames are also finished to match the existing property, with external aluminium finished in light grey and a clear lacquer used to enhance the inner wood frame.
Impressive acoustic control
In terms of product quality and design, VELFAC has lived up to all expectations, comments Chris, not least in providing impressive acoustic control. ‘Living near a busy road we expected to need triple glazing – but the VELFAC technical team assured us that standard double-glazed units would be fine, and they were right.’ Low maintenance performance is also important adds Chris: ‘We can clean all the windows, throughout the house, from the inside, and the frames need very little maintenance other than wiping over – this means they are also very cost-effective, even for a relatively small extension’.
