Bronze coloured windows to a timber cladded home

Offering a radically different approach to retirement living, Greenbanks is a new-build, one story home offering exceptional style and energy efficiency. The house was designed and built by property developers Bliss Space, who consider Greenbanks the embodiment of ‘lateral living’ - a new interpretation of the retirement home which brings ‘elegant 21st century’ design to the increasingly sophisticated (and wealthy) over-55s market looking to downsize from the family home.

Integral to the Design Concept
VELFAC composite windows and doors are integral to the Greenbanks design concept. Large glazed panels and patio doors form an almost full height window wall in the main living area, complemented by a ribbon window run above. Each bedroom also features full height glazed doors, and many window units – including those at ceiling height – are automatically controlled, adding convenience to the list of VELFAC benefits. The slim VELFAC frame further enhances the spacious interior by maximising natural light, while the glazing’s impressively low U-values support excellent energy efficient performance throughout house.

Combining Style, Energy Efficiency and Functionality
‘Having used VELFAC glazing in other projects, we already knew it could deliver the combination of style, energy efficiency and functionality we needed,’ comments Emma Smallbone of Bliss Space, who was also impressed with the versatility of the composite aluminium/wood frame: ‘The contemporary, clean lines of the finished window suits this style of property perfectly, and each frame is available in all RAL colours, giving us greater design freedom.’ At Greenbanks, Bliss Space opted for mid-grey aluminium framing to complement an exterior finish of cedar cladding and traditional flint render. Inner pine framing is finished in white, enhancing grey and white interior walls.

‘We are delighted with windows we specified,’ adds Emma. ‘Installation was quick and straightforward, despite the timber frame construction, and the end result is exactly as we imagined. The windows have enabled us to deliver the feeling of ‘apartment living’, even in a small country town.’
