Willowhurst

VELFAC composite windows, doors and patio doors are installed at Willowhurst, a development of 18 stylish, detached properties built within Priors Hall Park, Northamptonshire, one of the UK’s largest housebuilding projects.

‘VELFAC helps us sell our properties because of the system’s look and finish,’ says Paul Johnson, Land and Planning Director at Willowhurst developer Francis Jackson Homes. ‘VELFAC delivers market differentiation and creates properties which are ideal for aspirational buyers who appreciate quality and performance, and who are keen to have their own ‘grand design’ home.’

Priors Hall Park, owned by Urban and Civic plc, is a multi-developer site which will eventually deliver over 5,000 new homes, all built to strict quality and performance standards. ‘We had to deliver well built, low density housing in an architectural style which reflected the local woodland context,’ explains Paul. ‘We responded with a development of stylish, contemporary and distinctive family homes, based on four core designs but with each home slightly different. Having already installed VELFAC glazing in a previous development ([‘The View’ at Dadford’’]), we knew the system could meet the Council’s expectations.’

Every home at Willowhurst features VELFAC windows, hinged patio doors, and a dramatic full height glazed screen incorporating a VELFAC front door. ‘Buyers really respond to architectural glazing,’ says Paul. ‘It gives a bespoke character to every home which directly appeals to prospective homeowners who may dream of a self-build home, and who look for high quality, distinctive new build properties. VELFAC also gives us important market differentiation,’ adds Paul, ‘especially in a development like Priors Hall Park, with multiple housing types to choose from.’ The VELFAC composite frame is finished externally in dark grey, to complement a simple palette of buff brick, limestone and cedar, with internal timber finished in white to enhance light filled interiors. Customers appreciate the advantages of the composite frame design, adds Paul: ‘The ‘industrial’ finish of external aluminium is popular, but buyers don’t want it inside their home, so they welcome the familiarity of a wooden internal frame, without the associated maintenance issues.’

In terms of performance, the VELFAC system helped address the Council’s  design specifications and also some unusually specific acoustic targets: ‘Priors Hall Park is close to Rockingham Motor Speedway,’ explains Paul. ‘To meet the required standard we installed double glazed VELFAC units enhanced with a laminated glass pane, together with VELFAC acoustic trickle vents. These met with support from the Council’s Environmental Health team.’

Willowhurst has proved to be another successful development for Francis Jackson Homes - all 18 units were either sold or under offer within a few months of going on the market, and the development has also been shortlisted for ‘Best New Housing Development’ in the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018.  VELFAC glazing will be installed in the second phase of the development, comprising a further 35 homes which will be developed over the next three years.
