Wastdale Road and The Tramways are both low-rise apartment buildings offering well designed, high-end accommodation in order to maximise development value from their restricted plots. At Wastdale Road, for example, large VELFAC windows are combined with hinged patio doors to create an innovative window wall for every apartment.
The VELFAC system’s uniform sightlines complement the flat roof design and brick-built exterior, resulting in a stylish and contemporary apartment block. At Tramway Path, pitched roofs and patterned brick facades are designed to integrate smoothly with surrounding housing stock. Large VELFAC windows and patio doors, leading to balconies, are again a major feature of every façade and bring a sharp and modern finish to the more ‘traditional’ architectural style.
VELFAC was also specified for its excellent performance. Slim frames, for example, maximise natural daylight, and the system provides impressive thermal and acoustic insulation, ideal for high density living.
The composite frame design is also welcomed by potential homeowners - external aluminium is extremely durable, requiring no repainting and only minimal maintenance, while inner timber adds character and style to each apartment. External aluminium frames at Tramway Path are finished in mid-grey in contrast with surrounding brick while matching grey balcony balustrades and a seamed zinc roof.
At Wastdale Road, an anodised bronze finish was specified for the external framing, complementing pale brickwork and again, matching balcony balustrades. Internal frames are finished in white – a neutral shade welcomed by residents and which also enhances the daylight flooding through the large VELFAC windows.
