Dyson Place, Sheffield
Each apartment features a mix of different VELFAC units, including combination windows together with sliding patio doors which open onto private balconies. External aluminium VELFAC frames are finished in dark grey, providing a stylish contrast with red brick and stone façades, while inner timber window frames are painted white to enhance the spacious feel of each two-bedroomed apartment.
Having already used the VELFAC system in earlier projects, Metropolitan Homes Managing Director Martin Flowers was happy to specify it again for Dyson Place: ‘We had installed VELFAC glazing a few years earlier in a very exclusive apartment building – it had been recommended by the architect but we liked what we saw and when it came to Dyson Place, we wanted a product we could rely on. We considered alternatives but no one could match VELFAC for both price and look, and I was also impressed with the knowledge of the VELFAC sales team at their showroom in Northamptonshire, where we went to see the sliding balcony doors.’
VELFAC triple glazing, offering U-values as low as 0.8w/m2, has been installed in every apartment in order to meet the development’s low energy targets, ‘but it also delivers better acoustic insulation,’ adds Martin, ‘and the uplift in cost was actually not so great (around 10-15 per cent), with the result that I plan to specify VELFAC triple glazing for future projects.’
Dyson Place apartments went on the market in 2019.
