Security - VELFAC 500 is SBD accredited
The focus of Secured by Design is to prevent crime in homes and commercial premises by setting security standards for a variety of products. The principles have been proven to reduce crime risk and ensure that products certified by the scheme meet a high quality standard.
A number of VELFAC 500 products have been tested and certified to SBD performance standards (see below).
What is SBD?
Secured by Design is a voluntary scheme established in 1989 which is run by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and administered by trained Police staff.
SBD focuses on the design and security for buildings and encourages those engaged in design and specification to adopt crime prevention strategies, through the environment and physical security measures.
SBD operates a licensing scheme and includes member companies, of which VELFAC are one.

How is it tested?
Secured by Design certification involves testing the windows or doors burglary resistance and the products overall performance.
The windows overall performance is tested to BS 6375, it is tested further to enhanced security standard PAS 24:2012.
The test comprises of 3 parts, carried out in an accredited test house and replicates a burglar attempting to gain access through the window or door using tools thought to mimic a ‘burglar’s toolbox’.
1. To replicate forced entry, a professional will use a tool such as a screwdriver to lever or try to prise open the window or door, both at the locks and fittings, and attempt forced entry in under three minutes.
2. An attempt is made to remove the glass pane externally.
3. A mechanical loading test is made using parallel and perpendicular loads to gain entry.
Test results and classifications, VELFAC 500
The VELFAC 500 aluminium Security Door with 65mm profiles and double glazing (door type 6) has passed the PAS 24 test for Secured by Design.
